Run for the Roses offers scholarships to local high school seniors

In conjunction with the Run for the Roses 5K event the Run for the Roses Committee announced high school seniors will have an opportunity to compete for scholarship funds to be applied to higher education expenses at the institution of their choice. Applicants must be a high school senior graduating in 2014 enrolled in a Jeff Davis county school, or a JDC home school student.

The Run for the Roses Scholarship of $500 will be awarded to one high school senior from each of the Jeff Davis County high schools that include Prentiss High School, Bassfield High School and Prentiss Christian School. Along with the completed application an essay of 100 words explaining the benefits of an event like Run for the Roses in small communities is required.

The Katherine Turner Memorial Scholarship of $500 will be awarded to one high school senior in Jeff Davis County. With the application a 100-word essay is required explaining what volunteerism means to the applicant .

Students may apply for both scholarships.     Applications for each can be obtained from and turned in to the school guidance counselor and are also available at Run for the Roses website www.runfortheroses5k.com.

The deadline for applications to be turned in is April 7th.
