Funeral services were held Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Mt. Zion MB Church for Mr. Jasper Terrell Oatis, age 74, who died June 30 at Marion General Hospitain Columbia. Rev. Ozell White officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jasper Oatis was born in Jefferson Davis County to the late Onnie and Central Oatis. He attended school in Jefferson Davis County. He joined the Green Grove MB Church at an early age.
He worked in Port Gibson in construction until he was injured. He later worked with Washington Transportation until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jones Oatis, Willie Oatis and Olan Oatis.
He is survived by wife, Helen Oatis; children, Brenda (Willie) Harvey, Teddrick Oatis, Gregory Oatis and Anthony Oatis all of Prentiss, Angela Funches of San Diego, CA, Felecia (Micheal) Franklin of Hattiesburg, and Darrell Oatis of Las Vegas, NV; siblings, Jim Oatis of Milwaukee, WI, Helen McGhee, Carolyn (Roland) Norwood, and Central Oatis all of Chicago, IL, Eva Lois (Charlie) Bourne of Hattiesburg, Onnie Sue (Joshua) Lee of Magee; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
