Inez “Red” Hartzog

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss, for Mrs. Inez “Red” Hartzog, age 87, of Monticello, who passed away on January 30 at Lawrence County Nursing Center in Monticello. Interment followed at Silver Creek Methodist Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.

Deacon Bob Everard officiated. Pallbearers were William Bass, Rick Hartzog, Scott Alexander, Luke Martin and Sterling Tanner. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Hooker, Snookie Hartzog, Don Harris, Harry Thornton, Donnie Harris, Victor Thornton and William Hartzog.

A native of Jefferson Davis County, Julia Inez “Red” Hartzog was born on May 13, 1926.  She was the daughter of Edgar Reed and Sarah Fagan Reed. She was the bookkeeper at Hartzog Motor Company in Silver Creek for more than 30 years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and loved her family. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Bassfield.

Mrs. Hartzog is survived by son, Jimbo Hartzog of Silver Creek; daughters, Charlotte Daniels of Picayune, Dyan Martin of Silver Creek and Jane Allen Formby of DeRidder, LA; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her devoted friend, Lillie Magee of Silver Creek.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thomas “Coot” Hartzog, and one brother.
