Marvin “Buster” Blackwell

Funeral services were held Friday, January 31, 2014, at Friendship Baptist Church in Carson, for Mr. Marvin “Buster” Blackwell, age 97, of Carson, who passed away on January 26 at Marion General Hospital in Columbia,. Interment followed at Friendship Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.

Rev. Mike Mitchell officiated. Pallbearers were Jeff Smith, Van Padgett, Randy Padgett, Josh Smith, Matt Strack, Jerry Barrett and Sam Dicks.

A native of Carson, Mr. Marvin “Buster” Blackwell was born on January 1, 1917. He was the son of Luther Blackwell and Rosie Welch Blackwell. He worked with Mississippi State Highway Department for 25 years and was a cattle farmer. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and had taught the Men’s Sunday School Class for 30 years.

Mr. Blackwell is survived by his sons, Charles Blackwell (Velma) and Joseph Blackwell all of Carson; his daughters, Grace Smith (Roy) and Carolyn Sessums all of Richland; his sisters, Mary Helen Ward of Carson and Dorothy Broome of Sumrall; his 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
