The physical education program at Bassfield High School received a check for $1,000 on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 as the Class 2A winner of the “Text to Win” Contest held during the 2013 Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic football championship game at Memorial Stadium in Jackson on Friday, December 6.
With the “Text to Win” Contest, fans and supporters for each team were encouraged to get in on the rivalry by texting in during the big game. The team with the most text entries would receive $1,000 to be earmarked for its physical education program.
“We want to thank Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi for this opportunity,” said Bassfield High School Principal John Daley. “Our students and community really got on board for this contest, and we were fortunate to be able to win. This $1,000 will go a long way. It allows us to be able to expose our students to some programs or trips or materials that we may not be able to do otherwise.”
“Our goal is to support Mississippi’s students in their efforts to live healthy lives,” said Meredith Virden, Manager, Corporate Communications at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi. “Our partnership with the MHSAA in supporting Mississippi schools and communities is key in a healthy future for our state.”
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi was the title sponsor for the 2013 MHSAA Football Championship and continues its support of Mississippi’s student athletes with further sponsorship of MHSAA championship events including cheer & dance, basketball, track & field, baseball, softball, tennis, power lifting and the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Soccer Classic, which was held February 7-8 in Clinton.
