PHS Bulldogs in district tournament

The Bulldogs entered into the district tournament in Morton on Tuesday. The girls played McLaurin and the boys played St. Andrews.
The girls’ game was very sloppy from the start. Prentiss had the lead at the end of the first. McLaurin came within 5 points by halftime. The game got tight and intense by in the 3rd quarter but Prentiss pulled away in the fourth. Prentiss won and moved on to play Collins on Thursday.
Prentiss boys started very slow and sluggish against St. Andrews. The score was 8-12 at the end of the first. Prentiss started to pull off a little bit. After halftime, Prentiss jumped out to a big lead and finish off St. Andrews. The score was 64-19 in favor of Prentiss. Prentiss moved on and played Collins on Thursday.
On Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs took on the number 1 seed Collins. Collins started very hot and got off to an 8-0 run, forcing a timeout by the Lady Bulldogs. The game didn’t get any closer. Prentiss just didn’t come out to play. The final score wasn’t even close. Prentiss played Morton on Friday for 3rd place in the tournament.
The boys played the late game at 8:30. The game was very intense from the start. Prentiss and Collins was 1-1 in their regular season match-ups.
The game was determined by who made the final run. At the halftime, Collins was up by 7 points. The Bulldogs came surging out of halftime, going on an 8-0 run to take the lead. With 5 minutes left in the game, the score was tied and the both teams were trading buckets back and forth. With vital turnovers from Collins, Prentiss held off to win the game. The score was 72-65. Prentiss played Velma Jackson on Friday for 1st place.
On Friday, Prentiss girls played the Morton Lady Panthers. Lady Panthers was playing good at first. The Lady Bulldogs took control of the game after the first quarter. The game was still close at halftime though.
The game was intense in the fourth quarter. With 1 minute to go in the fourth, Prentiss tied the game up. Morton scored a lay up to put them up by two. Myyah West came back and scored the game-tying bucket with the foul. Myyah converted the and-one. Prentiss won the game and got 3rd place in the tournament. Myyah West was awarded all-district also.
Prentiss and Velma Jackson squared off for 1st place. Prentiss started off keeping the game pretty close in the first quarter. The game was 17-9 at the end of 1st. The game got out of hand after this point. Velma Jackson was up by 17 at halftime. The game didn’t get closer in the second half though. Prentiss lost the game 85-44. James Hawthorne and Chauncey Baggett received all-district awards.
Prentiss girls will play first round of the playoffs at Forest on Monday. Prentiss boys will play Choctaw Central this Tuesday at home. Come out and support the Bulldogs!
