Silver Creek Missionary Baptist Church held a celebration Saturday, May 31st honoring Ministry N Motion, a team of the church’s young people dedicated to praise and worship of God using synchronized movements, steps, turns and created gestures and facial expressions.
The group began in 1999 as the Silver Creek Praise Team under the leadership of the late Evelyn Craft and Louise Walker. The members grew up and assumed other roles but in 2011 Associate Pastor Jerel Showers restructured the organization renaming it “Ministry N Motion” incorporating young people ages 9-18 and “Angels N Motion ages 5-7.
Showers states, “God gave me this vision to work with young people when I moved back to Prentiss three years ago after a tour in the military. My goal is to get them excited about Him and representing Him with their praise.”
Showers emphasizes discipline in action that he says has spilled over into other aspects of the kid’s lives. “Since starting the group I’ve seen the kids begin to excel in school and there have had no behavior problems.”
The group has performed at graduations and conferences and most churches in the county. “We want to take it outside the church to share the goodness of God,” states Showers.
“Ministry N Motion stands for a ministry that is constantly on the move while working nonstop to give God praise. It is a mixture of 20+ young people who utilize their talents to make a difference in the world through dance using scriptures of Psalm 149:3 and 150:4 as their base.”
Leadership team member Amanda Craft-Ward was a member of the original group. She states the parents of the kids are very supportive.
The church and performing group are under the pastoralship of Rev. Jerry Rogers. A leadership team working to carry out the vision and mission include Anjernetta Bridges, Icerica Gardner, Shasta Gardner, Rev. Jerel Showers and Amanda Craft-Ward.
