Nellie J. Parkman

Mrs. Nellie J. Parkman, age 68, died Wednesday afternoon, October 22, 2014, at the St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Services for Mrs. Parkman were held on Saturday, October 25, at Pleasant Grove MB Church, with Rev. Curtis Bryant officiating. Interment was in the Pen Oak Cemetery, with Laird Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Parkman was the daughter of the Curtis Burks and the late Nellie Love Burks of rural Sharkey County, Mississippi. As a young girl, Mrs. Parkman was reared and educated in the Rolling Fork and Cary area, prior to moving with her family to Vicksburg.
Mrs. Parkman meet and married Augusta Parkman, while living in Vicksburg, and to this union four children were born. After marriage, Mrs. Parkman moved with her husband to Silver Creek, where she worked a number of jobs, including New Hebron Manufacturing, Sanderson Farms, Kellwood Manufacturing, and New Hebron Schools, in addition to being a loving wife and devoted mother.
Mrs. Parkman joined the Pleasant Grove Church and remained an active and faithful member until her health failed.
Mrs. Parkman’s survivors include her husband, Augusta Parkman; two sons, Robert Burks and Rodney Parkman, both of Silver Creek; two daughters, Lisa Parkman and Stephanie Parkman, both of Silver Creek; six brothers, Oscar (pat) Burks, Elmer Burks, Able Burks, Bud Burks, W.C. Burks, and W. L. Burks; two sisters, Mary Burks, and Rosie Burks; and four grandchildren.
