PHS Bulldogs playoff bound

The Prentiss High Bulldogs hosted the McLaurin Tigers on Friday night as they played their last home regular season game. The Bulldogs were looking to clinch a 3rd seed in the playoffs with a win.
The Bulldogs started the game off right, scoring on their first drive. Donte Ford scored on a quarterback sneak. The Bulldog defense would continue to be stingy, barely giving any yardage. But after a couple plays, McLaurin broke out a big run starting up their offense. McLaurin’s running back would continue run, helping the Tigers score a touchdown. On the Tiger’s next possession, Daronte Hartzog would get an interception and put the Bulldogs in good field position. They would take advantage of this, and Justice Reese scored a touchdown. The score was 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Prentiss would continue their dominance and score again. Deantye Crockett threw a touchdown pass to Anthony Walker. On the Tigers’ next possession, Anthony Walker caught an interception and took it the house, putting the Bulldogs up big. The Bulldogs would continue their smothering defense, not allowing any points. When the Bulldogs got the ball back, Deantye Crockett fired pass to the end zone on fourth down, but the pass was dropped. The Bulldogs would get the ball right back. Deantye Crockett wouldn’t miss his target this time as Tim McNair Jr. caught a touchdown pass from about 20 yards out. The first half ended with the score 29-7.
As the second half started, Prentiss would continue to pour it on the Tigers. After a stop on the first possession of the half, Javonne Walker scored on a power run from about 5 yards out. McLaurin would finally get their offense going. They scored a touchdown on their next possession. Prentiss would just continue their great offense and score again. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 43-14.
In the fourth, McLaurin continued to fight. Prentiss started to turn over the ball and give the Tigers good field position. McLaurin scored to bring the game a little closer. Then after another fumble, McLaurin capitalized and scored once again. The Tigers attempted an onside kick, but it was recovered by Ronald Baker. The offense held the ball and ran down the clock to end the game. The final score was 43-27.
Coach McNair had these comments after the game, “I was pleased with all phases of the game. We came out with a ton of energy and continue with the same energy the whole game. We look to have that same energy going into the playoffs. I hope that we have a lot of fan support as we travel to West Marion on Friday.”
The Bulldogs finished the season 7-4. They have a third seed in the playoffs and will face West Marion this Friday in the first round. We hope to see a lot of fans to help us to continue our season for another Friday.
