Ella Lee Armstrong

Mrs. Ella Lee Armstrong, 93, died Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Services for Mrs. Armstrong were held on Saturday, January 10, at Pleasant Grove MB Church with Pastor Larry Banks and Rev. Kenneth Hill officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Laird Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Armstrong was the first child born to the late Hosea Smith and the late Arlevia Taylor Smith of Silver Creek. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Church. Mrs. Armstrong served her Lord and Church as matron of the ushers for many years and as a Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Armstrong was reared and educated in the Lawrence County area, and spent much of her adult life as a homemaker and mother. As a young woman, Mrs. Armstrong married the late Elmo Armstrong and to this union eight children were added. Five children preceded her in death.

Mrs. Armstrong was active in the Eastern Star where she served as secretary for many years, as well as in the Jerusalem Chapter #54 of Heroines of Jericho, the Most Ancient Matron of the Louise Court #19, Ladies of Knights, Supreme Grand Council, and Daughters of Sphinx.

Mrs. Armstrong’s survivors include her three children, Ira Jean Weaver of Homewood, IL, Louis (Sue) Armstrong of New Hebron, and Ella Louise (Johnny) Myles of Yazoo City; 12 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
