Celebrity Comedian Dr. Dennis Swanberg again visited the Covington-Jeff Davis Baptist Association to bring laughter and entertainment in his own special style to those gathered for the pastor/deacons and wives banquet held at the Association building.
Swanberg has entertained all over the world with his humorous stories and personality imitations that include Jimmy Stuart, John Wayne, Billy Graham and Barney Fife from the Andy Griffith Show. Turning every day situations and conversations into hilarious stories is his gift that has given him fame but his serious side comes out when he talks of planting shade trees, the subject of his new book. Swanberg talks of how those who have come before us and mentored us may have never seen the fruits of their labors but have “planted shade trees” or given us a spot of importance that shaped our lives.
Swanberg grew up in rural Texas in the 1950s and became a minister of the gospel. He attended Baylor University and was pastor at several churches in Texas and Louisiana before turning to the full time “ministry of encouragement.” He is featured at many conferences and meetings across the country and has numerous DVDs available at local bookstores.
