Boy did we have a crazy day yesterday!
After being around a scanner day in and day out, you learn to continue with you daily tasks and not really stop to listen to each call.
However, certain words make your ears perk up. Like…evacuate.
I heard the town crew on the scanner yesterday morning, I heard them ask for back up, and I heard the word leak.
Nine times out of 10 it is a water leak, so when I heard evacuate shortly thereafter, I jumped in the car thinking something was flooded.
When I arrived at the location, no water, but it sounded like a jet was taking off. Gas.
Panic set in and our fine police officers immediately began going door to door to get people out of danger.
I did what I was told, (I’m pretty good at that contrary to what some would say) which was to get the word out to as many people as possible. Best way to do that? Social Media of course!
I’m sure it sent everyone in a panic, especially those that had children at PCS, but better safe than sorry.
If there is ever a message posted in all capital letters on the Prentiss Headlight Facebook page, take it serious folks.
I would not dare post anything like that in a joking manner, nor would I “yell” at our customers for no reason.
The police made sure those in the immediate area were safe, and stayed with the leak several hours until it was repaired.
The point that needs to be noted is this-we take care of each other.
We are dang good in a crisis…and it is in a crisis that we become a family.
Our Facebook post was shared 244 times and reached 17,065 people. No other post has ever had that much attention. People far and wide were checking on former neighbors and community members.
When there are people in need, we can be depended upon. No questions asked.
That’s what I love about us.
