Donald L. Burkett

Funeral services were held July 20, 2019, at Powell’s Ministry Church
of God in Christ in New Hebron for Mr. Donald Louis Burkett, 89, who
died July 10, 2019, at his residence.  Rev. James Powell, pastor,
officiated with burial following in the Lucas Cemetery in Prentiss.
Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Donald Burkett was born in Pinola to the late Frank and Lattian
Burkett. He joined Rose Hill Church of God in Christ and later
enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War and
received an honorable discharge.  Mr. Burkett lived most of his adult
life in New Orleans, Louisiana where he worked at Folgers Coffee for
32 years and retired. Later in life, he moved back to Mississippi and
worked at John’s Mansville in Richland. He joined Powell’s Ministry
where he served faithfully as head deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Burkett married the late Lena M. Edwards and to this union three
sons were born; he later married the late Ruthie L. Anderson and to
this union four sons were born; and later he married Miss Alice
Holston and raised a daughter.
He was preceded in death by: son, Fabian.
He is survived by: wife, Alice Burkett; children, James (Troy)
Burkett, Gary Burkett, Donald (Kabrina) Burkett, Efren (Gwen) Burkett,
Shelton (Bernice) Griffith and Thaedeus Holston-Bramlett; one sister,
Maxie Smith; one brother, Bobby (Vera) Burkett; a host of grand and
great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
