Olivia Boleware has been named STAR Student for Prentiss Christian School.
Boleware has been a student at Prentiss Christian since seventh grade.
She served as senior class president and is a member of the National Honor Society.
She is a member of Sure Anchor Baptist Church and is the daughter of Steven and Alison Boleware of Bassfield.
Boleware scored a 26 on the ACT and will be attending Jones College in the fall to pursue a degree in accounting.
Boleware chose Bill Whittington as her STAR Teacher. He has been a teacher at Prentiss Christian since 2017.
Whittington teaches World History, World Geography, U.S. History, American Government, Economics, Mississippi Studies and U.S. Civics.
He also coaches girls fast pitch softball and basketball for the Saints.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Mississippi State University.
The STAR Student and Teacher awards are normally presented at the annual Jefferson Davis County Chamber Partnership banquet held in the spring.
Due to COVID-19, all Chamber Partnership spring activities were canceled.
Chamber Partnership members Valerie Cooper, Chellie Payne, Barbara Slater and Dedra Johnson presented Boleware and Whittington with their awards on the school campus.
The STAR Student program seeks to recognize students for academic and ACT test achievement.
To be eligible for the STAR Student honor, a student must be a regularly enrolled senior in an accredited public or private high school and have an overall ACT composite score of at least 25 and an overall average of 93 or above.
The teacher selected is, in the STAR Student’s opinion, the person who has made the greatest contribution to the student’s scholastic achievement.
Each STAR Student and STAR Teacher is honored at the Mississippi Economic Council’s Education celebration in the spring.
Each STAR Student received a medallion, lapel pin, and certificate in recognition of their academic achievements.
There is no STAR Student this year for Jefferson Davis County High School.
