Thomas Patrick Barnes

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 17, 2021, at J. E. Johnson Elementary Gymnasium for Deputy Sheriff Thomas Patrick Barnes, 50, who died Saturday, April 10, 2021, in Jefferson Davis County. Rev. Alfred Balthazar officiated with interment following in Prentiss First Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Thomas Barnes was born to the late Alcee Gholar and Mrs. Betty Barnes. He was baptized at Prentiss First Missionary Baptist Church at a young age and remained a member where he served as trustee and member of security detail. He attended Prentiss High School where he graduated in the Class of 1988. After graduation, he attended Hinds Community College where he received an associate’s degree.
He worked at Diamond Offshore for many years and later began working for ABC Security where his love for law enforcement began. He joined and graduated from the Police Academy in 2017 and began his career with Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s department.
Mr. Barnes was married to Mrs. Felicia Hathorn Barnes and was the father of four children. He was also a member of Camp Wade Masonic Lodge Number 601.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Billy Barnes, Andrew Barnes, Larry Gholar and Alcee Gholar Jr.
His is survived by his wife, Felicia Barnes; son, Demetrius Barnes; daughters, Kendriona and Thomasina Barnes and Patience Oatis; two grandchildren, Halliey and Aiden Barnes; aunt that reared him, Stella Gray; mother, Betty Barnes; brothers, Robert Barnes and Gregory Barnes; Louis, Charles, Marcus, Calvin, Jerry and Jimmy Gholar; sisters, Kathy Smith, Barbara Young, Brenda Pounds, Linda Walker, Jewelene Magee, Greata Weary, Brenda Avery, Helen Simmons, and Katrina Barnes and godchildren, Mykeshia Barnes, Darryl Echols Jr., Kendrick Barnes, Kieona Barnes, Kemyedique Travis and May’Riya Barnes.
