Funeral services were held Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Prentiss First Baptist Church for Miss Latoya Sharese Barnes, 40, who died Sunday, April 18, 2021, in Jefferson Davis County.
Rev. Reginald Russell officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.
Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Miss Latoya Barnes was born to Mrs. Greta Barnes Weary and Mr. Levester Rhodes in Prentiss, Mississippi.
She was raised by her great-grandmother, Annie Lee Rhodes and great aunt, Annette Rhodes.
She joined Green Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. B. L. Shelby.
Miss Barnes was a 1999 graduate of Prentiss High School. She was employed at D. G. Chicken Plant in Hazelhurst.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother Annie L. Rhodes, grandfather Marshall London and her baby, Auri Owens.
She is survived by her mother, Great Weary; step-father, Carl Weary both of Tylertown; father, Levester Rhodes of Magee; sister, Malaka (Willie Jr.) Crosby of Collins; three brothers, Kendrick Barnes of Prentiss; LaDarius Tillman of Magee; Carlos (Terrill) Crumedy of Hattiesburg; god daughter, Xyion Walker of Bassfield; one god brother, Rontavious (Amanda) Logan of Tylertown; two grandmothers, Betty J. Barnes of Hattiesburg and Wyvonne Oatis of Prentiss; grandfather, Sylvester Adams of Detroit, Michigan; two best friends, Kristin Reese and Beatrice Coleman and many other relatives and friends.
