Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s dispatchers were trained last week after a new 911 system was installed.
The system has not been upgraded since 1980.
The new equipment is the Intrado Viper system.
Dispatchers will work off computers as opposed to phones as they have done in the past. They will be able to make transfers in a faster manner than before and also assist those in need that have hearing loss. The mapping capabilities are also improved.
“We are so excited to have this new technology,” said JDC dispatcher Robin Ledet. “It will be much easier to get help for our citizens.”
The system was paid for from general county funds.
