At the end of last month, a victim reported to the Prentiss Police Department that their car had been stolen and by whom. Detective Richard Browning learned the car and its alleged suspect were at the Western Motel several days later. Detective Browning and Prentiss Police Officer Debra Rider went to the motel and located the stolen vehicle.

The alleged car thief, Hosie Preston, was also at the hotel.  Preston was quickly arrested and the car was recovered. A handgun was seen in the car during the recovery, which led to the car being searched. According to officers, inside the car was a large amount of illegal substances and drug paraphernalia. Preston was booked into the Jefferson Davis County Jail and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts possession of a controlled substance with intent and grand larceny.

Preston was also wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections and had an outstanding bench warrant from the Jefferson Davis County Circuit Court.
