A chicken plate fundraiser was held at Bethany Baptist Church last Saturday for Rankin Faler, son of former Bethany pastor Lee Faler. Faler served Bethany Baptist for four years before taking a position at First Baptist Church in Terry.
Rankin Faler was diagnosed with a brain tumor recently and is currently in Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson.
The men of Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia smoked the chicken that was donated by Tyson Chicken in Magee and Sanderson Farms in Collins. Eason’s Fish House in Mendenhall donated coleslaw and the dessert and baked beans were provided by the women of the church.
A total of 500 plates were sold with all proceeds going to the Faler family.
Irene Davis with Save the Children of Jefferson Davis County presented church members with a poster the children made for Rankin.
“To everyone who served and played a role in the chicken plate fundraiser at Bethany Baptist this weekend, we want you to know that we are absolutely speechless and so grateful for you,” said Lee Faler.
“Bethany Baptist and Jeff Davis County will always hold a special place in our hearts. We love you so much.”
