Chester Coleman

Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, at Weathersby Cemetery for Mr. Chester L. Coleman, 81, who died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Rev. Kevin Russell officiated with Johnson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Chester Coleman was born to the late Eddie and Iccie M. Coleman. He joined Jordan Hill Baptist Church at an early age. He was affiliated with St. Peter’s World Outreach Center, Winston Salem, North Carolina at the time of his death. He attended Carver High School in Bassfield, where he played football and baseball. Mr. Coleman worked on the pipeline for years before relocating to Washington, DC. After obtaining his engineering certificate, he owned and operated M. Harmon Trucking Company. He was a minister for over thirty years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Coleman; children, Gloria Coleman, Dorothy Coleman, Ruby Jackson, Chandra (Ty) Coleman-Clark and Chester (Ashley) Coleman Jr.; son and daughter of the heart, Daniel McClendon and Shakara Byrd; nine other children of the heart, eleven grandchildren; two brothers, James R. Coleman of Columbia and Ezekiel (EK) Coleman of Collins; three sisters, Vorgie C. Sullivan of Bowie, Maryland, Williene Oatis of Laurel, Maryland and Elizabeth Sprewer of Hattiesburg; friends, Braxton Bullock and Tom Fee and many other relatives and friends.
