Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Highway 84 West late Sunday night after reports of a hit and run were called in to 911. According to authorities, an unidentified Walmart truck driver traveling toward Prentiss called to report a young black male trying to flag down traffic in the eastbound median of Highway 84 at Lucas. As the driver slowed down, she noticed a second person laying on the westbound shoulder of Highway 84 just before Lucas Warner Road. Both were injured, but had not been hit by a vehicle. The young black male was airlifted to UMMC in Jackson.

Jarriyon Davis, 24, of Lawrence County was declared dead at the scene. No other details have been released at this time. Assisting the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department with the ongoing investigation is the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the District Attorney’s Office.
