Graveside services were held Saturday, March 10, 2022, at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Silver Creek, for Mr. Robert Payton, 78, who died Thursday, March 10, 2022, at his residence.  Dr. Joseph Payton III officiated with Johnson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Robert Payton was born in Prentiss, i to the late Odie Mae Durr and Joseph Roosevelt Payton. He attended J. E. Johnson School. he was a member at Shady Grove Baptist Church. He loved working in his garden and making people laugh.

He was preceded in death byfour sisters, Bessie M. Coleman, Geraldine Marks, Catherine Drones and Juanita Barnes; two brothers, Eddie Newsome and David Payton and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by three sons, Torey (Terrlyn) Payton of Florida; Joseph (Nadine) Payton of Georgia, Marcello (Pandora) Payton of Florida; two daughters, Latrice Payton of Florida; Lakisha Durr of Mississippi. 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Earline Brown, Betty Jo Payton, Irma J. Payton; three brothers, James (Nellie) Newsome, Alfred Barnes and Daniel Barnes and many other relatives and friends.
