Willie Doris Hall

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Shorts Chapel C.M.E. Church in Carson, for Mrs. Willie Doris Hall, 76, who died Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Hospice Ministries, in Jackson. Rev. Johnnie Porter officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Willie Doris Hall was born in Prentiss, to Miss Willa Katherine “Kat” Parker and Mr. Woodrow “Woody” Oatis. She was educated in Jefferson Davis County School District; she attended Carver High School and received her GED from Prentiss Normal and Industrial Institute. She continued her education at Prentiss Institute where she received her Associate’s Degree and later attended William Carey University in Hattiesburg.
Mrs. Hall retired as an Assistant Teacher in Jefferson Davis County Public Schools. She and her husband owned and operated Hall’s Grocery for several years. She worked as an AmeriCorps Vista Volunteer with the Mississippi Association of Cooperatives and was a founding member of the New Community Cooperative.
She joined St. Paul Baptist Church at a young age, where she was a faithful member and enjoyed singing in the choir, where she was President and worked with Vacation Bible School Program. She attended Shorts Chapel C.M.E. Church with her late husband, M. L. Hall. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron; she was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Woodrow Jr. and Davis Oatis.
She is survived by her mother, Willa Katherine Harper of Carson; four children, Sandra (James) Bennett of Madison; Yolanda Buckley and Derek (Keisha) Hall of Carson; and De’Olive (Anthony) LaBarbera of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Charlotte Curry of Carson and one brother, Michael Oatis of California; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three godchildren; Debbie Thompson, Vanessa Hooker and Rodrigus Adams and many other relatives and friends.
