Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at Ruby K. Johnson Chapel for Mrs. Pearlie Mae Oatis, 88, who died Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, in Hattiesburg.  Rev. Jessie J. Holloway officiated with interment following in Parkman Cemetery, in New Hebron.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pearlie Oatis was born to the late Lloyd and Lillie Bell Sullivan Weathersby in Jefferson Davis County, Mississippi.  She was the sixth of eight children born to this union. She was educated at Progress Rural School and Prentiss Normal and Industrial Institute, Prentiss, Mississippi.  She was a member of Green Grove Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir.

Mrs. Oatis was married to the late Olden C. Oatis and to this union three children were born. She moved to Chicago, Illinois and worked in a cafeteria and later moved back in the early seventies and worked at Jefferson Davis County Extended Care Facility and Jefferson Davis County Hospital in the dietary department until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Jean Carr and one grandson, Marvin Scott.

She is survived by her son, Larry Oatis of Hattiesburg; daughter, Betty Williams of Jackson; stepdaughter, Jane (William) Jackson of Chino Hills, California; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
