Funeral services for Mr. Gerald C. Barr were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at Whitesand Baptist Church in Prentiss. Following the service, family and friends met at 4 p.m. for the interment at Unity Cemetery in Taylorsville. Rev. Ted Bowlin and Mr. John Christian Barr officiated. Mr. Barr, age 86, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord early Wednesday morning, Oct. 26, 2022, at his residence in Prentiss.
The family received friends Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at 2 p.m. at Whitesand Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers were Dylan Martin, Tyler Barr, Lee Barr, Robbie Barr, Aaron Barr and John Barr. Honorary pallbearers included Spencer Martin, Charles Myers and David Lee.
Gerald C. Barr was born on March 22, 1936, in Smith County Mississippi to Grady and Rubenia Blakney Barr. Mr. Barr worked for Southern Pine Electric Company for 40 years, retiring as a supervisor over right of way. He will especially be remembered for his joy of fishing and watching sports; but his greatest passion was watching his grandson play baseball. During ball season, Gerald and Lorraine could always be found at the ball field, cheering for their favorite baseball player, Dylan. Mr. Barr was dearly loved and will be missed by all that knew him. He was a member of Whitesand Baptist Church.
Mr. Barr was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Rubenia Barr and his sister, Jackie.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 46 years, Lorraine Barr; three sons, Jerry Barr, Ricky (Penny) Barr, Jamie (Jonnie) Martin; two sisters, Betty Nedbalek, Barbie Byrd and his brother Johnny Barr. The legacy of their PawPaw will also live on through his nine grandchildren and nine 9 great-grandchildren.
