Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, at Dry Ridge Baptist Church i Mendenhall, for Mr. William Phillip Walker Sr. 74, who passed away on Friday, Aug. 25, 2023, at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg.

Rev. George Graham officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He is the son of the late S. T. and Veria Ree Walker. He was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Walker Sr. was a retired professor at Jackson State University. He was a member of JSU Karate Club. He enjoyed karate, fishing, farming, and hunting.

He is survived by Beulah Walker of Prentiss; Danderia Walker of Columbia; William Walker Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; Samuel T. Walker of Mt. Vernon, New York; Phoenix Walker of Atlanta, Georgia; Tanishia Varnado of Florence; Nicholas Walker of Florence and many other relatives and friends.
