Run for the Roses set for April 13

Planning is underway for the 38th annual Run for the Roses to be held April 13 in Prentiss.
The 5-K run/walk will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the one-mile run/walk and the quarter-mile fun run.
The registration fee is $25 which includes the race shirt. School participants can sign up for a fee of $15. Registration fee proceeds are used to support the college scholarship fund and community improvement projects.
You must register to enter the run and to be eligible to win an award. All participants are asked to register online at www.raceroster.com.
Awards will be given to the overall winner, male and female, first Jefferson Davis County runners, male and female, Masters male and female, Grand Masters male and female, and top three finishers in each age group. In the one-mile, awards will be given to the top three finishers.
An award will be presented to the Jefferson Davis County school with the most participants.
There will also be an Oldest Participant award. The Overall and Masters winners will receive cash prizes.
T-shirts with race logo and sponsors will be presented to all participants registered prior to April 5.
To honor a longtime tradition roses will be given to the first 100 female finishers.
There will be a $500 cash award offered this year to the male and female who break the 5K course record. All participants are eligible to win multiple awards
MS Race Timing will time all run events with chip timing.
In addition to the race, The Jefferson Davis County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring food, gift and political vendors in the Longleaf Trace Park. Vendor spots are available for $35 with electricity and $25 without.
In conjunction with the Run for the Roses 5K event, high school seniors will have an opportunity to compete for scholarship funds to be applied to higher education expenses at the institution of their choice. Applicants must be a resident of Jefferson Davis County, a high school senior graduating in 2024 and must be enrolled in Jefferson Davis County High School or Prentiss Christian School. School counselors will be passing out the applications to students the week following spring break
