Funeral services for Mr. Joseph A. Landry, Sr. were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. French Tripp officiating.

Interment followed in the Brady Cemetery. 

Mr. Landry, age 94, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord Monday morning, Feb. 12, 2024, at his home in Prentiss.  Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

The family received friends Thursday morning, two hours prior to the funeral service, beginning at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Mr. Landry was carried to his final rest by those serving as pallbearers; they included Logan Potter, Drake Williamson, Landry Williamson, Gavin King, Cody White and Landon King.  James Earl Dickens and Denvil McPhail served as honorary pallbearers.

Joseph A. Landry Sr. was born on Dec. 11, 1929, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana to Gerard P. and Lena McCrory Landry.  Raised in Dutchtown, Louisiana,

Joe’s early years were shaped by the close-knit community he called home and he attended school in Prairieville.

After high school graduation, Joe enrolled in the United States Air Force. Serving his country with honor and distinction, he demonstrated his unwavering commitment to duty. After his discharge from the military,

Joe returned to civilian life and married the love of his life, the beautiful Jeri Lashley. They built a life together filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Together they nurtured a loving family that brought them immeasurable joy.

Throughout his professional career, Joe’s passion for excellence led him to various opportunities.

His exceptional talents led him to work at the Jacks Cookie Company as a district manager for many years. His dedication to his work often meant moving his beloved family several times as he set up new customer bases. 

In 1969, Joe found himself in Prentiss, where he embraced new beginnings and embarked on an exciting adventure in the convenience store business. Alongside his devoted wife Jeri, they operated Chek-A-Sak for several years.

Beyond professional achievements, Joe was known for his unwavering spirit and diverse interests.

He had a passion for deer hunting and forged unforgettable memories with his son during hunting trips across different landscapes.

One particular favorite for them both was their adventure in the breathtaking wilderness of Colorado. 

Joe touched the lives of many with his warm smile, compassion, and willingness to lend a helping hand.      

In addition to his parents, Mr. Landry is preceded in death by his brother, Octave Landry and his sisters, Effie McDonald and Rena Goss.

His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife of nearly 69 years, Jeri L. Landry of Prentiss; his daughters, Rebecca L. (Don) Williamson of Prentiss, Sandra L. Mathis of Brandon and his son, Joseph A. (Zaunda) Landry Jr. of Hattiesburg.  The legacy of their Pa Joe will also live on through the grandchildren he adored so very much; Brock Williamson, Kane Williamson, Leslie King, Shea Mathis and Kelsea White.  Mr. Landry also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
