Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at Holly Springs Methodist Church in Bassfield, for Mr. Robert James Graves Sr., 86, who died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at his residence.

Rev. Ernest Miller officiated with interment following at Sweetwater Methodist Church, Bassfield.

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Robert Graves was born to the late Anderson and Cora Graves in Jefferson Davis County.  He attended Carver High School in Bassfield. He later met and married Martha Nell Applewhite. He joined Holly Springs Methodist Church where he was a faithful member until his health failed. He was employed with Booth Brothers Construction Company where he retired after 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Carvin and Robert Graves Jr.; siblings, Velma Graves, Thelma Graves and Buford Graves. 

He is survived by his wife, Martha Nell; one daughter, Ketrina (Louis) Williams of Harvey, Louisiana; two grandsons, Lamon Williams of Harvey, Louisiana; Carvin (Sharon) Graves, Jr. of Monroe, Louisiana; three great-grandchildren; five great- great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
