Bishop Cantrell Q. Durr

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Silver Creek, for Bishop Cantrell Quinteze Durr, 31, who died Tuesday, April 23, 2024 in Rankin County. 

Rev. Bobby Ray Showers officiated with inter-ment following in the church cemetery. 

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bishop Durr was the youngest child born to David and Earnestine Durr. 

He touched the lives of through music and the preached word.  He was just a pastor but a shepherd of souls.

His sermons challenged, encourage and inspired.    

Bishop Durr ministered beyond the pulpit, through music and his voice.

His choir rehearsals were not just practice sessions; they were soul stirring experienc-es. 

He dearly loved all his family, especially his young children, whom he was train-ing to be gospel singers, worship leaders and lovers of God.

He was a graduate of Lawrence County High School and attended Copiah Lincoln Community College in Wesson. 

He married his high school sweethearts, Cheltzie Brown and they were the proud parents of three children.

Bishop Durr accepted Christ at St. Paul Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Phillip Clark. 

He was baptized at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He accepted his call to the ministry at the age of 19 and preached his first sermon at Pen Oak Baptist Church in Silver Creek in 2013. 

He attended Theology School and obtained his Doctorate in Divinity. 

He was consecrated as a Bishop in 2023.  Bishop Durr currently served as Pastor of Christian Chapel Disciples of Christ, Port Gibson, Mississippi and Triump Ministries, Prentiss, Mississippi which he found-ed. 

He also assisted with Powell Ministries in Prentiss, Mississippi. 

He was employed by Five County Transportation Senior Program as the Senior Aide of Prentiss. 

The Seniors loved his tenacity and ability to broaden their horizon.

He was employed at Wayne-Sanderson Farms in  Collins.

He is survived by his parents David and Earnestine Durr; six children, Cailyn Durr, Caidyn Durr, Cameron Durr all of Silver Creek; Aubrey Davis of Oma; Trenton Bryant of Monticello; and Gabriel Johnson of Shreveport, Louisiana; six sisters, Jamelia Durr of Hattiesburg; Shuntayia McLaurin of Jackson; Chellette Oatis of Oklahoma; Deondra (Troy) Edwards of Columbia; Devonda (Tadarin) Foster of Byram; and Trashunta Durr of Silver Creek; four brothers, Chriistopher Cagins of Columbia; Mondre’ Showers of Silver Creek; Ontario (Yaunequa) Showers of Ty-lertown; and Davion Durr of Silver Creek; seven uncles, one aunt, one godchild, Samyia Davis and many other relatives and friends.
