Young author to be at Juneteenth event in Bassfield

Members of the Jefferson Davis NAACP and the Juneteenth Sub Committee are planning to host this year’s Juneteenth Celebration in Bassfield.
The first Juneteenth Celebration was last year June 24 in Prentiss at the Longleaf Trace where the more than 200 people in attendance enjoyed 29 vendors and supporters’ booths.
This year’s Juneteenth festivities are scheduled for June 29 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Faler Park.
“We are excited to welcome everyone to Bassfield for this year’s event,” said Bassfield Mayor Angie Ladner.
The committee is planning a special appearance by youth author Cameron Daniels of Atlanta. His father, Kelton Daniels, is a native of Prentiss, and his grandparents, Ronnie and Ivy Daniels currently reside in Prentiss. Daniels will be available to sig copy of his book, The Fly Fairy.
Edrice Polk, who rode the bus with Rosa Parks, will be back to share history with the community.
Miss Hospitality, Ellen Porter and Little Miss Hospitality, Joshlyn Sylvas will also be in attendance.
