Evelyn Wilks

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Galilee Baptist Church, in Prentiss, for Mrs. Evelyn Wilks, 90, who died Saturday, June 8, 2024, at her residence.

Rev. Levester Sutton officiated with interment following at Parkman Ceme-tery in Prentiss.

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Evelyn Wilks was born to the late Dora Easterling and Stephan Cruse.

She graduated from Prentiss Institute and later became a cook at Jefferson Davis County Hospital where she dedicated over 30 years to serving others.

She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, where she was a member of the kitchen committee, bible class teacher for the Home Mission, Vice President of the Usher board, member of the Sunday School, BTU and the Women Mission. She was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho.

Mrs. Wilks was married to the late Willie Wilks, eight children were born to this union.

She was preceded in death by her son, James Earl Wilks;  grandchildren, Christo-pher Ball and Kandie Wilks Mallard; brother, Frank J. Sullivan, sisters, Madison Herring, Inez Hall, Eddie M. Hooker, and Queen Cates.

She is survived by: sons, Alvin (Robin) Wilks, Willie (Patricia) Wilks, Carl Wilks and Charles Ray (Cathy) Wilks all of Prentiss; daughters, Debbie Wilks of Prentiss; Thelma (James) Wilks of Bassfield; and Brenda (Kenneth) Sutton of Hattiesbur; siblings, George Easterling of Chicago, Illinois; Johnnie Easterling of Prentiss,  and Irma Jean Waiters of California; over 20 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; special friends, Caroline Rhodes, Vanessa Hooker and First Lady Ruby Sutton and many other relatives and friends.
