Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Jackson Townsend were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Sure Anchor Baptist Church with interment following in the Santee Methodist Cemetery.

Rev. Seth Bond officiated, assisted by Rev. Brad Roberts and Rev. Tom Jackson. Mrs.

Townsend, 80, slipped away to her eternal home, ever so peacefully, late Saturday night, June 22, 2024, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family received friends Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, beginning at 10 a.m. until the hour of service at 1 p.m. at Sure Anchor Baptist Church.

Mrs. Townsend was carried to her final rest by her grandsons, Eddie Joe Jackson, Wade Jackson, Cade Jackson, Brandon West, Bejay Norris, Ethan West and Shelby Wilson.

Carolyn Sue Jackson Townsend was born on Jan. 22, 1944, in Florida to Reggie and Ida Polk Blackmon.

A graduate of Monticello High School, Carolyn was proud member of the Red Devils Basketball Team.  Throughout her life,

Carolyn worked tirelessly as a supervisor at Edward Hyman and Horace Small Garment Factories; however, it was her time as a caregiver at the Ellisville State School that was a perfect fit for her heart of gold.

Known for her nurturing spirit, she touched the lives of many with her compassionate nature and unwavering dedication.

Carolyn’s family was her treasure.

The gift of making music was a talent among her sons and hearing them play brought many hours of pleasure to their mother.

In addition, the addition of three generations of grandchildren became her heritage and they also brought her immense joy.

In addition, Carolyn worked hard in raising a large garden. She not only delighted in canning vegetables but also generously shared her harvest with those around her, embodying the values of generosity and community.

After the passing of her first husband Charles, whom she had lovingly cared for, Carolyn found love again with James Townsend. Together, they spent 13 wonderful years creating cherished memories.

One of their shared passions was Southern Gospel Music, and they took great pleasure in traveling to attend concerts by their favorite groups in various locations including the Great Smokey Mountains.

Among all her accomplishments, Carolyn held one achievement above all others. In 2012, she professed a hope in Christ and secured her soul’s salvation.

This moment was undoubtedly the pinnacle of her life and brought her immense peace and joy.

Mrs. Townsend was a member of Sure Anchor Baptist Church.

Mrs. Townsend is preceded in death by her parents, Reggie and Ida Polk Blackmon; her first husband, Charles Edwin Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Donna Jackson and her sister, Charlotte Mullens.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband, James Townsend of Collins; daughter, Tammy (Jimmy) Temple of Bassfield; sons, Dean (Nancy) Jackson of Moselle, Joe Jackson of Bassfield, Paul (Michele) Jackson of Bassfield; step-daughters, Katelyn Onna (CJ) Sellers, Kaleeanna (Jason) McCray, both of Bassfield; daughter-in-law, Faye Jackson of Collins and her brother, Pat Blackmon of Oakvale.  The legacy of their Maw-maw will also live on through the grandchildren she adored Katie Mancuso, Emily Burkhalter, Brandon West, Ethan West, Eddie Joe Jackson, Miranda Norris, Melody Wilson, Malea Jackson, Wade Jackson, Cade Jackson, Christopher McRaney, Sean McRaney, Todd Liles, Melissa Mayfield and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
