Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Lucas Tabernacle Church of Christ Holiness USA for Mrs. Jay Owens, 62, who died Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss. 

Elder Kendrick Barnes officiated with interment following at Lucas Cemetery in Prentiss.

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jay Owens (Joyce) was born to the late McGuffie Longino and Lula Mae Grinstead.

She graduated from Monticello High School in 1980.  She served in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. 

After serving in the military, she pursued a career in nursing. She attended Southwest Community College, where she obtained an associate degree in nursing, later attending University of Mississippi Medical Center and received a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

She went to University of Southern Mississippi to pursue a Master’s degree until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Lee Longino; brother, Mitchell Newsome.

She is survived by two sons, Patrick (Cassie) Bridges of Silver Creek; and Mervyn (Courtney) Bridges of Prentiss; mother, Lula Mae (Mannie Lee) Grinstead of Silver Creek; two sisters, Gwendolyn (William) Eatmon and Glenda (Henry) Ball of Silver Creek; five granddaughters and many other relatives and friends.
