Charles Ray Jenkins Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Ray Jenkins Sr. were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday morning, June 15, 2024, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Bethany Cemetery.   

Rev. Terry Wallace officiated.  Mr. Jenkins, age 71, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Forrest General Hospital. 

Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

The Jenkins received friends Friday evening, June 14, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home; and also Saturday until the hour of the chapel service at 11 a.m.

Charles was carried to his final resting place by the guys he loved the most, his fishing buddies; they included Patrick Bridges, Alex Lee, Brandon Dyess, Morgan Berry, Daniel Graves and Charles Jenkins Jr. 

Honorary pallbearers included Wesley Temple, Daniel Temple, Eric Adcock and Landon Graves.

Charles Ray Jenkins Sr. was born on Aug. 29, 1952, in Natchez, to Claude and Pauline Dyess Jenkins. 

A lifelong resident of Jefferson Davis County, Mr. Jenkins served the citizens of Jefferson Davis County as a deputy sheriff in his younger years.

Later on, he also worked as a driller on a land oil rig.  Afterwards, he retired from working for Beat 1, Jefferson Davis County after many years of service.

Mr. Jenkins’s greatest joy in life came from his family and friends.

A devoted grandfather, he adored his grandchildren immensely and made sure to spend as much time with them as possible.

Fishing along the waters of the Pearl River and the Ross Barnett Reservoir was a favorite past time and brought him immense happiness, reflecting his love for nature and the outdoors.   

A “people person”, he gave of his greatest resource-his time to those he loved.  His son and all the pallbearers listed will forever cherish memories of all night fishing trips with “Mr. Charles” on the Pearl River. 

Mr. Jenkins was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jenkins is preceded in death by his brothers, Douglas, Dennis, Larry, Robert Dale, Ralph and his sisters, Brenda and Joyce.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Joy Ulmer Jenkins, of Prentiss, daughter, Amanda (Daniel) Graves of Prentiss; son, Charles (Jessa) Jenkins Jr. of Shivers;

two sisters, Louise Horning of Prentiss and Katherine Temple of Carson.  The legacy of their Papa will also live on through the grandchildren he adored, Landon Graves, Lillian Graves, Jensen Graves, Ashton Graves, Callan Jenkins and Ryland Jenkins.
