Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, at New Jerusalem Apostolic Church in Bassfield for Mr. James Sims, 82, who died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at his residence. Bishop
Melvin Hudson officiated with interment following at Sweetwater Methodist Church in Bassfield.
Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. James Sims was born to the late Oscar and Coree Butler Sims.
He attended school in Florence and worked in Cleveland, Ohio and New Orleans, Louisiana as a construction worker.
He was preceded in death by Ethal Mae Young, Lynion sims, Burnell Sims, John Sims and Messiah Griffith.
He was married to the late Mary Sims and five children were born to this union.
He is survived by his children, Shirley Ann Hathorn, Terrie (Steven) Sims, James E. Sims Jr., Lionel (Christine) Sims, Tina (Paul) Turner, 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
