Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Prentiss, for Miss Cynthia Marie White, 65, who passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at Jefferson Davis Community Extended Care Facility in Prentiss.
Rev. Ozell White officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.
Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Miss Cynthia White was born to Miss Imogene White and the late Jesse Baylor in Brooklyn, New York. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jesse Baylor and her late grandparents, Martin L Sr. and Josie M. White who raised her. She was baptized at six and remained a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was educated in Jefferson Davis County School System through the eighth grade. She was denied her civil rights to complete high school because of her physical disabilities when the public school system underwent mandated segregation. She earned her GED and was accepted at the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Rehabilitation and Criminal Justice. She was President of Resident Council at the resident facility where she resided for twelve years.
She was preceded in death by three special aunts and two special uncles, Edna Taylor, Wanda Walker, Donald White, Martin L. White Jr., and Brenda Wilkerson.
She is survived by her mother, Imogene White of Wilmington, Pennsylvania; brother, Douglas K. (Taiwana) White of Las Vegas, Nevada; three aunts, Brenda Wilkerson of Huntsville, Alabama, Joyce White of Mt. Olive and Delores White of Jackson; great aunt, Willie Young of Washington, D. C.; uncle, Michael Walker of Jackson and many other relatives and friends.
