JDC Supervisors accept bid to repair bridges

The Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors met for the first October meeting Tuesday morning at the board room in Prentiss. Rev. Jessie Holloway opened with prayer before the board adopted the agenda.
During County Engineer Les Dungan’s report, the board accepted the bid to repair several bridges on North Williamsburg Road.
The project was awarded to Atwood Fence for $110,538.57.
Donna Echols with The Echols Group discussed grant options and new job training possibilities with the supervisors.
JDC Sheriff Ron Strickland requested the housing of inmates increase to $25 per prisoner per day. The previous cost per prisoner was $20. The request was approved. This is for prisoners housed for agencies other than the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department.
The board approved the quote for flooring for the Five County Building. Two quotes were submitted. A & M Flooring was accepted in the amount of $19,375.92.
The board approved appointment of Liz Reid as a Jefferson Davis Community Hospital Trustee Board Member for District 2. The previous member for District 2 was Hugh Dyess.
Board Attorney Wes Daughdrill discussed the list of things needed to be completed at the justice complex before the warranty expires.
In other news, the board approved the following without opposition before entering into executive session and adjourning:
• Approved minutes.
• Approved Board President signing 2023 Reservation Letter with MS Home Corporation.
• Approved spreading into the Minutes Public Records Request from Use Zip Buffalo.
• Approved school bus turnaround District 1 362 North Carson Road and District 3 Morgan Lane.
• Approved deleting from inventory Election Commissioners office Optiplex 3010 Desktop computers, asset numbers 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982.
• Approved spreading Inventory Report in the minutes.
• Approved District 5 Supervisor traveling out of state to pick up a part.
• Approved employees attending meetings and conventions.
• Approved spreading into the Minutes Employee Action Forms for the Sheriff’s Department and Tax Assessor.
• Approved payment of mailbox knocked over in District 4.
• Approved payment of invoices without a purchase order: Sheriff’s Department, Titan Signs and Wraps for $600; Extension Office, Corporate Warehouse Supply for $1,119.75 and District 4, Moe’s Repair Service for $1,500.35.
• Approved acceptance of opioid check.
• Approved payment of annual tax allocation to the Fire Departments: Prentiss $ 9,425.08; Bassfield $18,375.08; Clem $18,858.63; Oakvale $9,425.08; Goodhope $ 9,900.15; Granby $ 9,425.08 and 84 West $ 9,425.08.
• Approved first quarter appropriations for Sheriff and Tax Assessor: Sheriff $325,000.00, Custody of Prisoners $198,750.00 and Tax Assessor $409,000.00.
• Approved claims.
