Elder Gregory Varnado

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at Ruby K. Johnson Chapel for Elder Gregory Varnado, 42, who died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, in Lawrence County.  Apostle Kuri McCray officiated with interment following at New Life Fellowship Church in Oakvale. 

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elder Gregory Varnado was born to the late Eula and George Varnado Sr. 

He grew up serving God at New Mission COGIC under the leadership of his father, Elder George Varnada Sr. 

He served God through singing in the choir, playing the drums and base and dancing.  He was called to preach the gospel.

He later joined New Life Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Amos Bridges where he remained for a few years until God sent him on an assignment.

He then joined The Book of Acts Holiness Temple under the leadership of Apostle Kuri K. McCray.

He was from Minister to Elder and became the assistant pastor of the church where he remained until he transitioned.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Samuel Slay; niece, Bridgette King; brother-in-law, David Jordan and an angel baby.

He was married to Kayla Varnado, to this union, two children were born, Zh’yhariah Varnado and Maddison Montgomery.

He is survived by his  wife, Kayla Varnado; two daughters, Zh’ynariah Varnado and Maddison Montgomery; three brothers, Terry (Rhonda) Varnado, Larry Varnado and George (Jackie) Varnado; three sisters, Sundra Jordan, Beulah Varnado and Ethel Varnado; mother-in-law, Rosia Slay; brother-in-law, Joseph (Sharella) Slay; many other relatives and friends.
