Graveside services for Mr. Charlie Wayne “Big Wayne” Bass was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at Bethel Cemetery in Bassfield with Rev. Harland Davis officiating. 

Mr. Bass, age 64, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, at his home.  Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

The family received friends Friday morning, beginning at 9:15 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers were Kyle Hathorn, Donovan Reggans, DeVontae Thompson, Dan Fails, Kenny Graves and Sonny Dyess.

Charlie Wayne Bass was born on Dec. 7, 1959, in Prentiss, to Charles Edward and Shelby Jean Graves Bass. 

A lifelong resident of Jefferson Davis County, Wayne was retired from the Mississippi Forestry Commission after 38 years of service.

Of late, he was employed by Thompson’s Gas LLC as a truck driver. His family relates that some of his happiest times were spent sitting on the porch talking with his late father, Mr. Charles E. Bass. Wayne will be remembered as an avid hunter and fisherman; he also enjoyed woodworking in his earlier years.  Mr. Bass was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Bassfield.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Jean Bass; stepdaughter, Heather Jones; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Willie Edna Graves and his paternal grandparents, Oliver and Zelma Bass.

He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Debbie S. Dyess Bass of Sumrall; son, Charlie Wayne “Little Wayne” Bass II (Lacey) of Prentiss; step-son, Kyle Hathorn of Magee; brother, Eddie Bass (Kathy) of Sumrall; sister, Debbie Istre of Hattiesburg and nine grandchildren.
