Absentee voting ends Saturday for Tuesday’s election

Time is winding down for absentee voting for the Nov. 5 Presidential General Election.

Anyone who will be out of town on Election Day, is in college, is over the age of 65, or is not physically able to go to the polls, can vote absentee through this Saturday.

Voters should bring a photo ID with them Jefferson Davis Circuit Clerk office, located in the County Building on Third Street.

The office is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. until noon Nov. 2.

Mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by election day.

A sample ballot can be found on page 10 of this edition.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

There are several local races on the Presidential General Election ballot.

Election Commissioners in Districts 1, 2, 3 and 5 will  be on the ballot.

Linda J. Speights in District 1, Ann Stringer in District 2, Towander M. Applewhite in District 3 and Mattie N. Lewis in District 5 have all qualified and are unopposed.

Also on the ballot are District 3 and District 4 School Board members.

Running in District 3 is Nadine Thompson and in District 4 is Shonda Burre Ard. Both are also unopposed.

Nine candidates are on the ballot for United States President including Kamala D. Harris (D) and Donald J. Trump (R).

Ty Pinkins (D) and Roger Wicker (R) will face each other in the United States Senate race.

Dawn H. Beam and David P. Sullivan are in the race for Supreme Court Justice District 2 Position 2.

Michael Guest is unnopposed tor the U. S. House of Representatives Third Congressional District .
