Supervisors extend county burn ban

The Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors met for the first November meeting Monday morning at the board room in Prentiss.
Rev. Jessie Holloway opened with prayer before the board adopted the agenda.
The board extended the current county burn ban for two weeks and will re-evaluate the ban on Nov. 18.
Bids were opened for the sale of equipment in District 2. Mose Weary was the high bidder for the Peterbilt truck and trailer for $25,500.
There was only one bid received for the rubber tire packer. It was rejected.
Calvin Moses inquired about the operations and administration of Price Field in Prentiss with hopes to revitalize the program and bring more opportunities for children in the county.
Emergency Management Director Jocelyn Ragsdale gave a department update and presented a quote for radios.
County engineer Les Dungan and attorney Wes Daughdrill gave bi-monthly reports.
Agenda item, Approved quote for payment of tires and mount and balance and signing of release in District 5, was continued.
In other news, the board approved the following without opposition before entering into executive session and adjourning:
•Approved minutes.
• Approved quote for payment of tire and rim for $1,500 with signing of release in District 5.
• Approved quote for payment of tires and mount and balance for $187.28 and signing of release in District 4.
• Approved quote from Cole Tractor for $24,800 for 10’ cutter for District 5.
• Approved public records request from SmartProcure.
• Approved school bus turnaround in District 3 at 136 Morgan Lane.
• Approved advertising for yearly commodities and prisoner meals with opening bids on Jan. 6, 2025.
• Approved acceptance of donation of office equipment, Sheriff’s Department.
• Approved spreading into the minutes Inmate Commissary Communication and Vending Agreement with the Department of Rehabilitation Services.
• Approved spreading into the minutes Employee Action Forms for the Sheriff’s Department and District 3.
• Approved spreading into the minutes Inmate Meal Log for February 2023.
• Approved hiring JeLoru’s Florist for installation of Christmas decorations for courthouse.
• Approved claims.
