A group of committed community members, Friends of Prentiss, has been leading the effort to provide Christmas lights and decorations in the Longleaf Trace Park and along Columbia Avenue.
The group held fundraisers over the last few months to begin the beautification project.
The Lighting of Prentiss and the unveiling of a new Christmas Tree will be held Nov. 30 in the Longleaf Trace Park. The event will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Photos with Santa, hot chocolate and cookies will be available and gift drawings will be held throughout the evening.
Rev. Vic Hill will provide the welcome and greetings followed with prayer by Bro. Rolland McMillan. Tony Waits will recognize city and county officials before the opening song is led by James Malloy.
The event will feature the Voices of Pearl River Community College, along with other singers and performances including the Bethany Baptist Church Children’s Choir directed by Jessica Jackson, JDC Middle School Choir directed by Elissa Hartwell, Prentiss Christian Children’s Choir directed by Tammy Sanford and the Jefferson Davis County Mass Choir.
Following the closing prayer, the community will sing We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The festive event will conclude with children placing ornaments on the new tree. Bring a chair and come join the fun as the Christmas season is kicked-off in downtown Prentiss.
