Supervisors lift county burn ban

The Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors met Monday morning in Prentiss for the second meeting of the month. District 5 Supervisor Jerry Gholar offered prayer before the agenda was approved.
The board lifted the countywide burn ban.
Mildred Oatis made an inquiry to the board about placing a family cemetery on her property off Highway 13.
JDC Chief Investigator Frank Riley presented more Fuelman information to the board. Fuelman is a company that provides fuel cards and fleet management programs for businesses and government fleets. Currently, the county utilizes two tanks at the rear of the JDC Courthouse that provide fuel to the JDC Sheriff’s Department and other JDC Administration.
Fuelman offers fuel cards that can be customized to control costs and ensure money is only spent on fuel for company vehicles. The board approved the use of Fuelman for JDC deputies and other administration for a six month trial period.
Jason Cook, the owner of Piggly Wiggly and the South Prentiss Shopping Center, discussed land taxes with the board and his efforts to fill the shopping center with new tenants.
Jefferson Davis County Investigator Vernon Dampier made a request for new body cameras for Jefferson Davis County deputies.
“Body cameras have saved lives and careers over the years,” said Dampier. They will help keep our deputies safe and also provide valuable evidence in legal cases,” he said.
Dampier presented a quote for 10 PatrolEyes GPS touch Screen WiFi body cameras for a total of $4790. The board approved the purchase of the cameras.
County attorney Wes Daughdrill and accountant Cathy Slocum gave end of the month reports.
In other news, the board approved the following without opposition before adjourning:
• Approved minutes.
• Approved school bus turnaround in District 3 at 44 McVey Lane.
• Approved changing office manager’s name at Hancock Whitney on Sheriff’s Department checking account.
• Approved credit card report and payment of the same.
• Approved spreading into the minutes Employee Action Forms for the Sheriff’s Department and District 2.
• Approved officials and employees attending meetings and conventions.
• Approved District 2 Supervisor traveling to Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula to pick up donated metal for JDCSD.
• Approved payment of invoice to Dungan Engineering for $2,130.00 for survey and plat of property and to Southern Mississippi Planning and Development for Senior Citizen Social Services for $11,565.95 and Annual Membership dues for $2,830.25.
• Approved payment of invoice without a purchase order in District 3 Solid Waste to Southern Tire Mart for $2,673.36.
• Approved spreading into the minutes the October 2024 inmate housing and meal log.
• Approved advertising county resources with WJDR for JDC High School playoffs and with Save the Children for Early Steps to School Success Program December Celebration.
• Approved request for annual funding to Economic Development for $61,700 and to the MSU Extension Office for $1,500.
• Approved claims.
