Lawanda Formisano-Horn

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, at Zion Community Church of God in Oakvale for Evangelist LaWanda Formisano-Horn, 77, who died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, at St. Dominics Hospital in Jackson. 

Elder Timothy Scott Jr. officiated with interment following in the Moore Family Cemetery in Oakvale. 

Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Evangelist Formisano-Horn was born in the Johnson Community near Oakvale to the late Frankie Bourne Moore and Earnest Moore.

Her early education began in local community and schools and Prentiss Institute.

She graduated from J. E. Johnson High School in 1965 and served in the United States Army, 11965-1967. 

After military service, she relocated to Los Angeles, California. 

In 1986, Evangelist Formisano-Horn, along with retired late husband, Victor Formisano and adopted son, returned back to Mississippi to reside. 

Prior to leaving to for the military, she was a farm and cattle girl who could do anything on the farm.

She was a member of Zion Community Church of God from childhood. 

She joined Harvest Celebration Evangelist Church of God in Christ, June 2000, under the pastorship of timothy Scott Jr.

She was always active in church; she served in many positions and accepted her call as Missionary Evangelist in 1991.

Evangelist Formisano-Horn returned to college in 2002 at William Carey University in Hattiesburg and graduated at the age of 58.

She earned a B. S. in Psychology with minor in Gerontology.

Shortly after graduation, she accepted the position of Education and Outreach Coordinator of 11 counties for the Domestic Abuse Family Shelter, United Way Agency. 

She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Moore; grandparents.

She and Warren G. Horn met in 2021 and married.  She became the step-mother of three step-daughters, LaQuette (Floyd) Royston, Warnithia (Malcolm) Thompson and Warneshia Horn; and entered the lives of three grandchildren, five brothers and five sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her husband, Warren Horn; son, Martin L. Moore; sisters, Bettie (Roy) Drummond and LaMildred (late Willie Rowan) Oatis; brother, Bennie (Margie) Moore; aunt, Ruby Blank and many other relatives and friends.
