Funeral services for Virginia B. Durrett were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, at Bethany Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Jackson officiating.
Mrs. Durrett, age 91, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord Monday morning Dec. 23, 2024, at her home in Prentiss.
Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
The family received friends Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.
Virginia B. Durrett was born on Nov. 7, 1933, in Jefferson Davis County to Homer L. and Sarah Rovertis Rayburn Burkett.
She was a graduate of Prentiss High School where she also played basketball.
A lifelong resident of Jefferson Davis County, Virginia began working for the Edward Hyman Company in June of 1955 at an entry level position and advanced to the position of plant manager, where she remained until the plant ceased operation in 1985.
She enjoyed the outdoors, whether gardening or cultivating beautiful flowers and unique plants.
She was happiest on her lawnmower, being able to see the tangible results of her labors. Virginia also loved animals and her two furry companions, Albert and Bobby, were constant sources of joy and companionship in her life.
Mrs. Durrett was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hope and Roe Burkett; husband James W. Durrett; brother Jewette Burkett, as well as an infant brother, Maxie Harold Burkett.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter, Nona Durrett of Prentiss.
