P. Kevin Hughes, owner of Saulters Moore Funeral Home in Prentiss, has been appointed as a Southern District Governor for the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association.
Originally from Water Valley, Hughes discovered his passion for funeral service at age 12, inspired by his town’s funeral director, Hamric Henry.
After high school, he began working at Browning Funeral Home in Water Valley in 1990 while attending mortuary school at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Hughes earned his Associate of Applied Science degree in 1992, passed the National Board Exam, and obtained his Mississippi Funeral Service License.
In 1999, he moved to Memphis to work at Memphis Funeral Home, where he refined his skills under renowned leaders.
A decade later, he and his wife, Jennifer, launched Greater Jackson Mortuary, which grew into a premier provider of mortuary services across the southern United States.
After reaching a peak of over 5,300 calls in 2023, they sold the business and acquired Saulters Moore Funeral Home.
Kevin, Jennifer, and their son, John Marc, reside in the Society Hill community of Jefferson Davis County.
The family is active in Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Jayess, with John Marc preparing to continue the family legacy in funeral service.
