JDC Firefighter of the Year awarded at annual banquet

The 2024 Jefferson Davis County Firefighter Banquet was held Jan. 25 at the Rosenwald Building on the Prentiss Institute Campus in Prentiss.

President of the Mississippi Fire Chiefs Association Kyle Hill was the guest speaker for the event.

Awards were presented to each department’s firefighter of the year.

Those awarded were Tim Manning, Clem Firefighter of the Year; Josh Lee, Clem Firefighter of the Year and Prentiss Fire Department Employee of the Year; Mike Butler, Prentiss Firefighter of the Year; Will Crowdus, Granby Firefighter of the Year; John Magee, Bassfield Firefighter of the Year and 25 years of service award and Penny Anthony, Oakvale Firefighter of the Year. The 2024 Jefferson Davis County Firefighter of the Year was presented to Will Crowdus.

“Congratulations to Will Crowdus on being named 2024 JDC Firefighter of the Year as well as all the other award winners throughout the county,” said Prentiss Fire Chief Michael Davis. “I am extremely proud of the Jefferson Davis County and the Town of Prentiss fire service for the excellent job they have done this past year,” he said.

JDC Sheriff Ron Strickland and District 2 Supervisor Ricky Barrett received appreciation awards on behalf of the JDC Sheriff’s Department and JDC Board of Supervisors. Prentiss Mayor Charley Dumas was also presented with an award of appreciation.

Kathy Johnson of the Town of Prentiss was recognized for her 44 years of service to Prentiss and Jefferson Davis County.

“We are grateful for all the men and women who dedicate their time protecting the lives and property of our community,” said Prentiss Mayor Charley Dumas.
