The Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors met for the second meeting of the month Jan. 23 at the board room in Prentiss.
The meeting was regularly scheduled for Jan. 21 but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The meeting opened with prayer by board president Michael Evans before the minutes were approved.
The board spent the first portion of the meeting in a budget workshop with county accountant Cathy Slocum and other county elected officials.
Superintendent Ike Haynes informed the board that the JDC School Board had recently purchased three acres of land in Bassfield on Highway 42.
School officials intend to use this for additional parking for Jefferson Davis County High School.
Haynes requested the assistance of the supervisors and their equipment to clear the property and make necessary preparations for use.
He also discussed the necessity of improvements and new developments for softball, baseball and track facilities. No action was taken by the board of supervisors.
Josh Broome announced the opening of a new business in Prentiss. Broome and his father, Randy Broome, have purchased the former Breazeale Tire Center on Highway 13 south just outside of town. The two will open an auto collision business, Randy’s Auto Collision, LLC, with state-of-the-art auto paint facilities. They hope to have the business open by early summer. The Broomes also plan to open a quick lube oil changing business at the same location in the future.
