Lady Jags headed to the state championship

The Jefferson Davis County High School Lady Jaguars are headed to the 3-A state championship. The Lady Jags defeated the defending state 3-A champions, the Belmont Lady Cardinals, Tuesday morning in Jackson 49-47.

The Lady Jags had a 17-11 lead in the first quarter and held Belmont 25-21 at halftime.

Belmont took a five point lead in the third quarter, but JDCH regained control in the fourth quarter holding Belmont to eight points.

Kevionna Myers was high scorer for the Lady Jags with 13 points and seven rebounds. Lashayla Fortenberry added 12 points and Kimmoria Hathorn 10. 

The 3-A state championship game will be played Friday at 2 p.m. at the Mississippi State Coliseum. The Lady Jags will play the Booneville Lady Blue Devils for the state title.

The Lady Jaguars won the 6 3-A district championship for the third year in a row this year and are 30-0 in district play.

This is the Lady Jaguars first trip to the championship since the formation of Jefferson Davis County High School in 2017.
